GTA’s Location Differentials Lookup Database provides Members with a simple way to search and reference current Location Differential (LD) information online. LDs are widely used by the Australian grain industry to support pricing for port-based contracts, particularly GTA Contract No. 2 – Grain and Oilseeds in Bulk, Basis Track, commonly known as the Track Contract.
The lookup tool allows Members to find LD values by site and related location details. For Members who need to use LD data within their own systems, GTA also offers read-only API access to the LD dataset. Access is provided through a unique member API key, allowing usage to be monitored and access to be managed individually.
This LD Lookup Database replaces the need to request Excel spreadsheets and is available at: Location Differential Tables

GTA’s AGM is taking place on Tuesday, 27 October in Sydney and on Zoom.
Following a record number of applications last year, GTA’s Five Under 30 program is back for 2026–27.
Applications are now open for five emerging grain professionals from GTA Member organisations to join the 12-month leadership development program.
Since launching in 2023, Five Under 30 has supported the next generation of industry leaders through mentoring, professional development and opportunities to build connections across the grain supply chain.
Participants gain access to targeted mentoring, industry exposure and opportunities to engage with industry leaders. The program also encourages applications from people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and locations.
Participants are selected on merit, with consideration given to gender, background, industry experience and regional representation.

GTA and the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) recently met in Canberra to work collaboratively on opportunities across the post-farm gate grain supply chain.
GRDC is currently exploring opportunities in post-farm gate research that will have flow-on benefits for growers. This includes assessing the efficiency of grain sampling probes and exploring the use of AI-supported digital imagery for grain assessment.
Discussions between GTA and GRDC covered a range of opportunities, including the Grain Storage Assets Management Standard, market-targeted weed seed agronomy programs and a stewardship framework for new technologies, including grain breeding using genomic editing.
The organisations also discussed joint work on Safe Work Australia’s workplace exposure limits for phosphine and the impact of storage on malting barley viability.
The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and identify areas where research and industry expertise can support practical outcomes across the post-farm gate supply chain.
Nominations are now open for the 2026-27 GTA Technical Committees & Domestic Sector Council providing Members with an opportunity to contribute their expertise to the work GTA undertakes to facilitate trade.
The Technical Committees & Domestic Sector Council provide specialist industry input into the products, services and frameworks that support and enable trade facilitation. Their contribution helps ensure GTA’s work continues to reflect the needs of the contemporary commercial grain trading environment.
Members interested in contributing to this work are encouraged to consider nominating for a GTA Technical Committee or Domestic Sector Council.

Technology is changing quickly. For the grain industry, keeping pace with innovation means finding the right balance between opportunity, market choice and confidence in the supply chain.
This was a key theme when GTA Projects / Operations Manager Tim Ross spoke at the Australian Seed Federation Seed Business Convention 2026 in Melbourne, attended by around 160 people from across Australia’s seed industry.
Tim shared an update on Grain Assessment Technology and GTA’s Technology Stewardship Framework, which builds on the Market Choice Framework to help facilitate trade in relation to genetically modified (GM) crops.
The framework is based on collaboration, transparency and a risk-based approach. It aims to support information sharing, encourage early engagement and help establish appropriate certification and frameworks as new technologies emerge.
The need for this work is growing. Access to innovation is becoming more challenging and commercialised, while consumers are increasingly seeking information and transparency about what moves through the supply chain.
For GTA Members, an industry-led approach can help build trust and confidence in new technologies while supporting market acceptance and choice.
GTA’s Technology Sub-Committee continues to review developments in Grain Assessment Technology and the Technology Stewardship Framework. This work will help shape the next steps for the industry as new technologies move from innovation towards commercial adoption.
GTA is seeking Member feedback on proposed changes to the East Coast Location Differentials (LDs) for the 2027-28 season.
Following a review of the current East Coast LD structure and prevailing freight market conditions, the GTA Commerce Committee has proposed an uplift to the LDs to bring them closer to the prevailing market.
Subject to Member feedback and final approval by the GTA Board, the revised LDs are proposed to take effect from 1 October 2027.
The Commerce Committee has also proposed that East Coast LDs continue to be reviewed on a rolling three-year basis following implementation, to ensure they remain relevant as market conditions change.

GTA has welcomed WorkSafe Victoria’s proposal to delay the commencement of new Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) for airborne contaminants, including phosphine, until 1 December 2029.
GTA has been advocating for additional time to address concerns that the revised phosphine WELs, due to commence on 1 December 2026, cannot currently be reliably measured or met in practical workplace conditions.
The proposed extension provides an opportunity to further validate measurement methods, understand the operational impacts and develop a practical, nationally consistent approach to phosphine exposure that supports worker safety.

GTA CEO Pat O’Shannassy attended the 2026 NFF Leaders’ Summit and $100bn Industry Celebration in Canberra, joining more than 250 leaders from agriculture, business and government.
The Summit focused on the need for agriculture to have a stronger voice in national discussions on issues including trade, national security, energy, infrastructure and supply chains. It also provided an important opportunity to connect with industry and representative groups from across the sector.
The evening reception at Parliament House marked Australian agriculture reaching $100 billion in farmgate production, four years ahead of the 2030 target set in 2018. The reception was attended and addressed by the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition, with more than 40 other parliamentarians also present.
The Prime Minister, the Hon Anthony Albanese, highlighted the significant contribution of the grain sector, which has increased its contribution by 128 per cent since the $100 billion target was launched – the largest increase of any agricultural sector.
The milestone was an important opportunity to recognise agriculture’s contribution to the Australian economy and its growing voice in national debates, while looking ahead to what comes after $100 billion.
