The countdown is on, with just weeks to go until GTA brings the grain industry together to celebrate 35 years of facilitating trade.
The GTA 35th Anniversary Gala Dinner is on Wednesday, 28 October 2026 at the Grand Ballroom, Four Seasons Hotel Sydney. It will bring together GTA members, industry leaders, partners and stakeholders for an evening of celebration and connection.
For 35 years, GTA has worked alongside the industry to facilitate trade through practical frameworks, commercial standards and dispute resolution. GTA also advocates to government and other bodies on issues affecting the Australian grain industry.
This work is strengthened by the knowledge, experience and collaboration of the people who make up the industry GTA serves.
Stronger together is at the heart of that work – and the perfect way to mark this milestone.
The evening will include drinks on arrival, a three-course dinner with matching wines and drinks, and a lucky door prize featuring emerald jewellery. Guests are invited to dress in black tie/formal, with an optional touch of emerald.
Register today and join GTA and the industry for an evening to recognise the journey, celebrate the people who have helped shape it and look ahead to the next chapter.

GTA and grain industry representatives recently met with Safe Work Australia (SWA) and the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) to discuss implementation of the revised Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) for phosphine.
The discussions covered practical implementation challenges, peak-exposure monitoring, regulatory guidance, research and the impact of the revised WELs on grain-industry operations.
GTA will continue working with SWA, APVMA, GRDC and industry to support an approach that protects workers while being measurable, practical, nationally consistent and appropriate for Australian grain-industry operations.

After six years of service on the GTA Board, Richard Perkins will step down at this year’s AGM.
Richard was elected as an Ordinary Level B Director in October 2020 and has made a valued contribution to GTA throughout his time on the Board. He has generously shared his experience and expertise through various technical committees, most recently as Chair of the Information Technology Advisory Committee, and as a member of the Audit, Finance & Remuneration Committee and the Dispute Resolution Service Committee.
Richard is also one of GTA’s Trainers for Grain Trading for Non-Traders Training and Development courses and will continue in this role.
GTA sincerely thanks Richard for his time, commitment and contribution to the GTA Board and the organisation more broadly. His involvement has been greatly valued. We are pleased he will continue as a GTA Trainer, and we wish him all the very best in his future activities.
GTA has requested a meeting with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) to discuss opportunities to improve the timeliness, reliability and accessibility of Australian grain export information.
ABS export statistics are an important source of objective information for grain-market participants. More timely and accurate data would help industry assess current export activity, identify changes in commodity and destination demand, and improve commercial and operational planning.
Better access to current information could also support the efficient use of ports, storage and transport infrastructure, while helping industry make decisions using a consistent and authoritative source.
GTA is looking to discuss a range of options with the ABS, including shorter publication timeframes, earlier release of preliminary or provisional data, and more frequent publication of appropriately aggregated information. A regular and clearly communicated publication timetable would also improve access to the data.
GTA is also seeking improvements to data quality, including greater accuracy at the point of data entry and faster identification and correction of material errors. Any changes would need to maintain appropriate confidentiality arrangements that protect individual businesses while allowing useful market information to be released.
GTA has offered to help the ABS engage with exporters and other industry participants to improve data quality and test practical reporting options.
The objective is to give the Australian grain industry better access to current and reliable export information while maintaining appropriate confidentiality protections.

The Australian Government has released a streamlined Wheat Port Code (WPC), which commenced on 1 October 2026 and will remain in place for three years.
The temporary Code provides an interim regulatory framework while the grain industry works towards an agreed model for self-regulation. It retains key protections, including good-faith obligations, timely publication of port loading statements, port loading protocols for managing demand, and standard terms and reference prices. It also removes much of the detailed and prescriptive access regulation in the previous Code.
GTA sought feedback from Members as part of the Government’s review of the WPC. This enabled GTA to clearly communicate Members’ position to Government.
GTA and the industry Working Group will now continue developing an industry-managed Port Protocol. Once agreed by Members, GTA intends to present the model as an option to replace the temporary regulatory approach.
Government has indicated an industry model may be considered before the end of the new Code’s three-year term.

GTA has written to the Australian Treasury seeking clarity on proposed financial adviser education standards and how they will apply to advisers working in agricultural commodity markets.
GTA is seeking a practical framework that recognises the specialised knowledge required to advise grain producers and other industry participants on commodity prices, contracts, hedging and market risk.
