GTA is seeking industry feedback on the current Trade Rules and Standard Form Grain Contracts (SFGC)

1. Issue

GTA has an established, Board-approved process for the periodic review and update of the GTA Trade Rules and Standard Form Grain Contracts (SFGC). This process includes industry consultation, the identification of key issues, and consideration of proposed amendments, followed by a review by the Commerce Committee and the GTA Board.

The GTA Commerce Committee has commenced its review process and is inviting members and industry participants to submit feedback on any issues, gaps, or proposed changes to the Trade Rules and the SFGC.

What feedback should cover

GTA is seeking practical, evidence-based feedback on how the current Trade Rules and SFGC operate in practice. Submissions may include:

• Operational issues – clauses that are unclear, difficult to apply, or create inefficiencies in day-to-day trading
• Disputes and interpretation – recurring issues, grey areas, or matters commonly arising in commercial dispute and GTA arbitrations
• Legal and regulatory changes – impacts of new or updated legislation, regulations, or court decisions
• Market practices – where current Rules or Contracts no longer reflect how trade is being conducted
• Risk allocation – areas where risk is unclear, unbalanced, or leading to unintended outcomes
• Consistency – misalignment between Trade Rules and SFGC, or internal inconsistencies
• Gaps or omissions – areas not currently addressed but now relevant to industry.

Where possible, submissions should clearly outline:

• the issue
• the impact on your business or the broader industry
• the proposed change
• supporting examples or evidence.
