The Hon Julie Collins MP, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, officially launched the Grain Storage Assets and Management Standard (GSAMS) Scheme at AGIC 2026.

Grain Trade Australia (GTA), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), developed GSAMS as a new alternative pathway to strengthen Australia’s grain storage and quality assurance framework.

The Scheme aligns directly with GTA’s Australian Grain Industry Code of Practice and provides a consistent approach to grain storage and management across the domestic and export supply chain.

GSAMS is designed to strengthen confidence in grain quality, food safety and phytosanitary outcomes, supporting Australia’s reputation as a reliable supplier of safe and high-quality grain.

It also provides an alternative pathway for demonstrating compliance with importing-country and export requirements, while maintaining existing regulatory assurance standards.

The Scheme reflects a partnership approach between industry and government, with GTA responsible for delivery and administration of GSAMS on behalf of industry, and DAFF providing oversight to ensure Australia continues to meet its international obligations.

A pilot program conducted between November 2022 and April 2023 informed the development of the Scheme and its regulatory approach following onsite and virtual assessments.

As of Wednesday, 1 July 2026, GSAMS is available to Australian grain industry participants, including export Registered Establishments and domestic operators, as a voluntary standard supporting improved consistency and accountability across grain storage systems.
