Grain Trade Australia (GTA) is proud to announce that its CEO, Pat O’Shannassy, has been elected President of the International Grain Trade Coalition (IGTC). This appointment highlights Australia’s engagement and leadership in facilitating the global trade of grain trade and highlights GTA’s commitment to fostering a robust rule-based framework for international trade—a critical component in ensuring global food security.
The IGTC, based in Geneva was founded in 2000 to represent a global coalition of trade organisations and corporate stakeholders focussed on minimising non-tariff trade barriers and ensuring the efficient movement of grains, oilseeds, pulses, and derived products.
As IGTC President, Pat O’Shannassy will work with IGTC members and other stakeholders to address key challenges, facing the global grain trade, including regulatory inconsistencies and non-tariff barriers, while driving collaboration to strengthen supply chain resilience.
“The international grain trade is vital to feeding the world. GTA’s long standing and active participation in IGTC ensures that our industry’s priorities are brought to the global stage,” said Pat. “I am honoured to serve as President and to continue advocating for risk based, rules-based trade framework that benefit producers, exporters, and consumers worldwide.”
GTA has been an active IGTC participant for over a decade, bringing Australian industry issues to international discussions and working with stakeholders to mitigate risk around trade barriers. This coalition has helped secure equitable market access and promote sustainable trade pathways for the benefit of IGTC and GTA members.
GTA remains dedicated to supporting its members through international advocacy and partnerships on a global stage. By aligning with IGTC’s mission, GTA ensures that Australian grain producers, exporters, and stakeholders continue to thrive in an evolving global market.
