TOPIC: Reminder of Grain Transport and Contamination Prevention

DISTRIBUTION: GTA Members – primary contact list. Please circulate to all appropriate internal parties

1. Purpose

Grain Trade Australia (GTA) wish to remind Members of the risk of fertiliser contamination in grain transport. Members are reminded to ensure the transport is appropriately cleaned and free of previous products before loading grain, in accordance with industry requirements and best practice procedures.

2. Background

The Australian grain industry has a strong reputation for supplying grain that meets domestic and international market requirements. Maintaining this reputation relies on all participants in the supply chain taking appropriate steps to prevent contamination, including ensuring transport equipment is thoroughly cleaned and suitable for carrying grain.

3. Grain industry requirements

Obligations relating to transport hygiene and contamination prevention are outlined in the Australian Grain Industry Code of Practice, the Grain Industry Transport Code of Practice, and GTA’s Technical Guideline Documents (TGDs).

4. Further information

GTA encourages Members to review and utilise the resources available on the GTA website to support compliance with industry best practice, including:

• Technical Guideline Document No. 10 – Truck Cleaning
• Technical Guideline Document No. 18 – Truck Cleaning – Treated fertiliser

These resources provide guidance on managing contamination risks and maintaining Australia’s reputation as a reliable supplier of safe, quality grain that meets customer and market requirements.
