Grain Trade Australia (GTA) has been accepted as a member of the Trade Diversification Network (TDN), strengthening its role in supporting the Australian grain industry to diversify export markets and respond to evolving global trade conditions.
The TDN is part of the Australian Government’s Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) Accessing New Markets Initiative (ANMI), which leverages the capabilities of national peak industry bodies in partnership with Austrade. ANMI’s purpose is to assist Australian businesses to rapidly diversify into new export markets and capitalise on growth opportunities in established markets.
Through participation in the TDN, GTA will work with Austrade and other partners to support market diversification activities for the Australian grain industry and facilitate dialogue that strengthens relationships with existing and emerging trading partners.
The grain industry is facing increasingly complex and unpredictable markets due to climate variability, geopolitical instability and the growing use of non-tariff and protectionist trade measures. In this environment, coordinated industry representation and access to government-led trade initiatives are critical.
Federal Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell said expanding Australia’s trade relationships was essential.
“Australia is a trading nation, and we want to see more Australian exporters doing more trade with new and emerging partners across the globe in places like the Middle East and Southeast Asia.”
GTA’s CEO Pat O’Shannassy said membership of the TDN delivers practical benefits for GTA members by strengthening advocacy and market access support.
“Participation in the Trade Diversification Network ensures GTA can contribute grain industry expertise to government trade initiatives and help position members to take advantage of new market opportunities as they emerge,” Pat O’Shannassy said.
“For GTA members, this means stronger representation, improved access to market intelligence and closer engagement with Austrade and policy makers at a time of increasing global uncertainty.”
GTA looks forward to working with Austrade and fellow TDN members to support trade diversification outcomes for the Australian grain industry and reinforce Australia’s reputation as a reliable supplier to global markets.
