In 2026, Grain Trade Australia marks 35 years since its establishment by industry, for industry. That founding principle continues to guide GTA today.
Formed in 1991, GTA, formally known as the National Agricultural Commodities Marketing Association (NACMA), was established to create a self-regulatory framework that standardised grain trading standards, trade rules and contracts across the Australian grain industry. Its purpose was to support efficient trade across the grain supply chain. From the outset, the organisation has been shaped by its members, with industry expertise informing the standards, contracts and frameworks that underpin commercial grain trade.
Over three and a half decades, GTA’s role has evolved alongside the industry. What has remained constant is the importance of collaboration across the grain supply chain. Members, GTA Board, technical committees and volunteers continue to shape GTA’s work, ensuring it reflects practical experience and confidence in both domestic and international markets.
Today, GTA supports members through industry-led trading standards and contracts, dispute resolution services, professional training and development, and advocacy on market access and trade policy. GTA also brings the industry together through internationally recognised conferences that encourage knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
Together, these foundations help create certainty in an increasingly complex trading environment.
As the grain industry responds to changing markets, regulations and customer expectations, GTA remains focused on supporting the self-regulatory framework and facilitating trade – the backbone of the Australian grain industry. These principles have guided GTA’s work since its inception and remain central to its role today.
The 35-year milestone provides an opportunity to recognise not only the organisation’s history, but also the collective contribution of the Australian grain industry as it continues to guide and strengthen Australia’s grain trade.
To mark the anniversary, GTA will host a 35th Anniversary Gala Dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney on Wednesday, 28 October. The event will bring members and industry partners together to acknowledge this shared achievement.
