Grain Trade Australia (GTA) has launched the revised Australian Grain Industry Code of Practice (Code), reinforcing the Code’s central role in supporting quality assurance across the Australian grain supply chain. The updated Code was officially released at AGIC 2025 in Melbourne on Wednesday, 30 July.
The Code is a key component of the industry’s Self-Regulatory Framework and is mandatory for all GTA Members. Supported by GTA’s products and services, it provides a consistent framework to achieve the standards and expectations of domestic and export customers and regulatory requirements.
The review process began in early 2025, followed by a full industry consultation. An Industry Working Group representing a broad cross-section of stakeholders was tasked with recommending updates. The final version was released for public comment, with no material amendments proposed during the feedback period, demonstrating strong industry support.
GTA Chair Andrew Goyder said at the launch: “The Code is fundamental to the trust placed in our supply chain by customers, regulators and trading partners alike. It underpins the ‘facilitation of Trade’ and the way grain is handled, stored and traded across the country and is endorsed by the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.”
The endorsement from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry further reflects the Code’s importance in maintaining a reliable and orderly grain supply chain that meets customer expectations and regulatory requirements.
To support implementation, GTA will release a new online training module to help members understand their responsibilities under the revised Code. Members are also encouraged to nominate a dedicated Code Champion within their organisation to lead awareness and compliance.
The Code continues to support the integrity, reliability, and the positive global reputation of the Australian grain industry.
